Updated: 1 day ago

Introducing our team of motivated and enthusiastic pacers that will be helping runners hit their half marathon target times in the 2025 Bakers Brentwood Half Marathon on Sunday 23rd March.

We have added pacers to 3 new finish times ar 1hr 25, 2hrs 45 and 3hrs.

Whether you're looking for that personal best you've been aiming for, or you just want to ensure you run a lovely even race without going off too fast and burning out with 2 miles to go, our pacers will get you round.

Click the times to read more about the pacers at your target finish time.

Finish Time 1:25

Pacer 1

Name: Will Kirk

Club: Havering AC

Race day tips: Don’t try anything new on race day, from food to clothes, always try them out beforehand. And don’t go out too fast….

Finish Time 1:30

Pacer 1

Name: Oliver Bridge

Race day tips: Enjoy it, leave a bit in the tank for the end and smile for the cameras

Pacer 2

Name: Richard Mould

Club: Billericay Striders

Race day tips: Have a plan - Prepare your kit the night before, plan your travel to the race, and give yourself plenty of time for the plan to go wrong! Running is easier when you’re relaxed, so avoid unnecessary stress!

Enjoy it! - Race day is an opportunity to celebrate all the hard work and effort you’ve put in to training. Smile, take in all the support, and show people what you can do!

Finish Time 1:35

Pacer 1

Name: Jason Crispin

Club: Havering AC

Race day tips: Get you pace right. Have a clear goal in mind. Train to a pace and stick with it no matter how many people fly past at the start. You will see them later!

Pacer 2

Name: Russell Davies

Why did I want to be a pacer?  I have a passion for supporting others and creating a positive experience for runners. Pacing allows you to encourage participants, help them achieve their goals, and contribute to the community aspect of the race.

Race day tips: Preparation is key. Lay out everything you’ll need the night before—kit, watch, gels, etc.—and stick to a pace plan. If you have a specific race time goal - maintain steady splits and don’t overdo it in the first few miles (when you will be feeling fresh)!

Finish Time 1:40

Pacer 1

Name:  Ross Chapelhow

Race day tips: My running tip for the Brentwood half is to save some energy for that hill in the last mile! But more importantly enjoy the race!

Pacer 2

Name: Sarah Griffith

Club: City of Southend

Why did I want to be a pacer: I’ve run this race a number of times and would like to give something back to the local running community

Finish Time 1:45

Pacer 1

Name: Stuart Weaver

Club: Rushmere Community Runners

Race day tips: Number One tip is to enjoy your run. What’s the point otherwise? Start the night before by eating well (something that you are used to) and resting up. Get up nice and early and eat a breakfast that you are used to having. Leave plenty of time to get to the race too. Once there try and relax, meet up and chat to other runners. Warm up sensibly. Go to the loo if possible.

Pacer 2

Name: Ginte Bailey

Club: Havering AC

Why did I want to be a pacer: I'm feeling ready to give something back and help others achieve their goals. I would be doing a long run anyway, so it makes perfect sense to pace!

Finish Time 1:50

Pacer 1

Name: Jamie Williams

Race day tips: Try not to get too nervous and stress in the days leading up to race day and the morning of the race - some nerves are good but the nerves will have disappeared after 100m of running and then you’ll hopefully feel at ease and be able to enjoy the run.

Pacer 2

Name: Jess Collett

Club: Barking Road Runners

Why did I want to be a pacer: I would love to help someone set a pb or the goal they set out to achieve that day. It would be really rewarding. I’m a coach and vice captain at our running club, so I’m use to motivating people and will happily talk to anyone and everyone about running!

Race Day Tip: Fuel early (after 30 mins) and often (roughly every 30 mins) and make sure you've practiced this in training.

Finish Time 1:55

Pacer 1

Name: Ben Whateley-Harris

Club: Brentwood Running Club

Why did I want to be pacer: This is my home race and one of my favourites. Brentwood never disappoints - the crowds, atmosphere and fun are in full swing. 1:55 is ideal for anyone wanting to get their first Sub 2 hour half marathon.

Race day tips: Enjoy the day, soak up the sights and remember; the race starts downhill and finishes uphill.

Pacer 2

Name: Gary Pankhurst

Club: Rayleigh RATs

Why did I want to be pacer: I have run many half marathons which I enjoy immensely. Whenever I race I always try to go out hard. This time I would like to help others achieve their goals.

Finishing Time 2:00

Pacer 1

Name: Andy Leonard

Club: Brentwood Running Club

Why did I want to be a pacer: As a previous pacer for Brentwood, I really enjoyed being part of the event and even more so helping runners achieve their times

Race day tips: Firstly, don’t stress, you can never predict conditions on the day so adapt accordingly. If you had a target time in mind and it’s not looking likely – then don’t worry - there will always be another event! Remember the goal is to complete – not worry about the time! Secondly, be prepared. Ensure you have all your items ready the night before and hydrate and eat accordingly. Lastly, ensure you get to an event with plenty of spare time. You don’t want to be rushing around and getting stressed. Try to enjoy the occasion!

Pacer 2

Name: Pam Bell

Club: Nuclear Striders

Why did I want to be a pacer: After all the help I’ve had from pacers getting me my PBs I would like to do the same and give back

Finishing Time 2:15

Pacer 1

Name: Emily Sheppard

Club: Phoenix Striders

Why did I want to be a pacer: I am passionate about supporting others to achieve their goals. I love the role as pacer, and feel privileged to be part of a landmark occasion for so many people

Pacer 2

Name: Liam White

Club: Springfield Striders

Why did I want to be a pacer:  I have long wanted to be a pacer. I love talking with and supporting people. I help to run a children's club in Chelmsford as well as mentor apprentices & graduates in my work. I am a competent runner with race experience from 5k to marathon and frequently train with others in the time bracket I am pacing.

Finishing Time 2:30

Pacer 1

Name: Paul Smailes

Race day tips: Relax and trust in your training - nobody ever thinks they have done enough! Fuel your race correctly and practise you pre-race routine.

Pacer 2

Name: Nicola Moughton

Club: Billericay Striders

Why did I want to be a pacer? I love to pace at Parkrun and wanted to try pacing at a longer distance. The long run is my fave! I love helping people achieve their running goals.

Race day tips: Bring your trainers and your smiles - see you there!

Finishing Time 2:45

Pacer 1

Name: Mark Nixon

Why did I want to be a pacer? I'm an experienced runner coming back from a long lay with an injury and enjoy helping "back of the back" runners to enjoy running and achieve their goals, whether it's to finish a race or get a pb.

Finishing Time 3:00

Pacer 1

Name: Jodee Mayer

Club: Witham Running Club

Why did I want to be a pacer? I love pacing and helping people achieve their goals. As a pacer of "those getting more value for money out of the course", I am often running with people completing their first half marathon or coming back to running after a break. I am inspired by people's stories.

For anyone looking to run with me, I will be pacing the Bakers Brentwood Half Marathon with a 2 minute run, 1 minute walk ratio.
