About

About Our Event

Under New Management

This great event in the Brentwood calendar is now in it's 42nd year.

Over the years the event has raised several million pounds for charity.  We were pleased that the 2023 bounced back after Covid and 2024 was even better.

For 2022 we decided to  set up a new organising team to  share some of the  burden and ensure the event has a future. Details of the new team can be found in the 'Organising Team' page.

We were delighted how this turned out and the same team will again be organising the 2025 event.

We are also very pleased that our wonderful sponsor for the past few difficult years has agreed to be the key sponsor of the 2025 event. This is the local company Baker Labels, who also trade under the name Sportstiks.

Organising Team

Supporting Brentwood Charities

We are delighted to confirm  that the same team, established in 2022 will be handling the 2024 event. The team comprises of the following.

Two, well know local charities, Saint Francis Hospice and The Brentwood Theatre are bringing their expertise to the event.

We also have the support of the Brentwood Running Club, who will be managing the routes. They bring a huge amount of expertise to this important part of the event.

Our sponsor, Bakers, does not just provide financial support, they get involved with many aspects of organising the event, including most of the publicity.

The Rotary Club will still be fully involved, providing it's experience over 40 successful years, and guiding this new team for 2024.

The team look forward to welcoming you to a fantastic Half Marathon.

These are the local organisations jointly handling the 2024 event. Please click on their logo to find out more.

FAQ

FAQs

When is the last day I can register?

How will Covid-19 affect the event?

We will fully comply with UK Government and RunBritain guidelines applicable at the time of the event.  We have an appointed Covid-19 Event Officer who will develop the detailed Covid-19 plan applicable to the timing of the race. This will be communicated to all entrants. Please also note Section 10 in the Terms and Conditions of entry. This relates to event cancellation particularly where insurance is not possible. (i.e for Covid 19)

The last date for on-line registration is Monday 15th March 2025.  This is to ensure your race pack can be posted to you in time for the event.  Transfers can be made up to Thursday  19th March 2025 and you will need to collect your race number from the original entrant. Please note it is not possible to enter on Race Day. All entries must be made through our on-line facility.

What is your refund policy?

You can cancel within 7 days  of making your entry , we are legally obliged to  provide a full refund.  After 7 days we have a strict no-refund policy for entry fees for any reason. For any merchandise purchased (i.e T-Shirt) we will make a full refund, less postage providing the item is returned, unused within 14 days of delivery.

Is your event suitable for all ages?

You will need to be 17 years or over on Race Day to be able to enter the Half Marathon..

Can I wear headphones?

Under UK Athletics rules, headphone, earphones and any other device that covers or are in  the ears are not permitted unless needed for medical reasons.  Runners ignoring this instruction will be disqualified. It is essential for safety reasons that runners can hear instructions from marshals, particularly on the parts of the route still open to traffic.
Bone conducting and other transmission devices that do not cover the ears, are allowed.

Can I enter on Race Day?

We ceased Race Day entry in 2009 to improve the smooth running of the event and speed up the results process.  It will not be possible (for any reason) to enter the race on race day in 2025. No race packs will be available. So please ensure you enter early. Entries open on  1st July 2024.

My race pack has not arrived!

In the unlikely event that your race pack does not arrive by Thursday  19th  March 2025 please let us know by e-mail through our contact page.
If we have received your entry, we will ensure a replacement pack can be collected at the information desk on race day.
It is important that you check that we have received your entry via the  'Check your Entry' facility on the FR Systems entry page.
If you have received your race pack and have lost the BIB/CHIP, please come to the information desk in the sports hall, and we will issue you with a replacement .

Medals and Awards?

All runners who complete the event will receive a quality commemorative medal.  There will be cash prizes and a trophy for the 1st/2nd/3rd overall, Male and Female. 1st Prize is £300, 2nd Prize is £200 and 3rd Prize is £100.

Additionally there is a trophy for the veteran male (over 40 years), veteran female (over 35 years) and the winning team. There is also a trophy for the oldest competitor who finishes the race.

Can I Transfer my entry to another runner?

  • For 2024, our providers, FR Systems have an on-line facility to allow transfer of an entry in the Half Marathon to another runner up to the entry closure date of 21st March 2024.

  • The runner changes must be made on-line via the FR Systems portal. Details for access are provided on the confirmation e-mail  at the time of entry.

  • The integral chip and number must be handed by the original entrant to the new runner. You cannot transfer an entry if you have not received the race number/chip and no replacements will be issued.

  • Runners who take part with a race number that has not been officially transferred will be disqualified.

Do you have a secure baggage facility?

We provide under cover baggage racks in the sports hall where runners can leave their bags. We have found this has worked well and avoids the need for an army of volunteers to man the desks. Whilst this is not totally secure, no bags have been lost in the two years of operation. All bags are left at the owners risk.

When does the event start?

The Half Marathon starts at 10.00am . Runners should listen out for instructions from the announcer.

How do I make a team entry?

Each team should consist of a minimum of five entrants running in the same race. Each team member MUST individually fill out and sign an entry form.
Teams can be entered prior to the event by noting the team name on the entry form or updating their entry via the FR Systems entry portal. The latest date is 18th  March 2024
There is no limit to the number of members in a team, however only the first four will count towards the team trophy.
The winners will be the team with the lowest total of the positions of the first four members crossing the finishing line. If you are considering entering a very large team, it may be more fun to divide into smaller teams and have an internal competition.

Can I check my entry has been received?

You can check if we have received your entry on the FR Systems entry portal via this web site.
If your entry is not shown within two weeks of submission, please let FR Systems  know by e-mail (contact page) and they will investigate further. For on-line entries we will need the FR Systems confirmation reference number provided to you by e-mail immediately you have successfully completed the entry.
If you have not received this confirmation it is most likely your entry has failed  and you will need to re-apply.

Can I defer my entry to next year?

Sorry, it is not possible to defer your entry to the following year if you cannot take part.

Will any roads be closed?

Yes. Roads will be closed to traffic for a major part of the Half Marathon route. Unfortunately it is not possible to close all roads so runners should take care on non-closed roads and listen for instruction from the marshals. Click here for full details of road closures.
